Journal of Social Media Research (JSOMER)

JSOMER is an international, interdisciplinary, double-blind peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal dedicated to advancing rigorous, original, and ethically responsible research on social media.

JSOMER provides a global forum for scholarship at the intersection of the social and behavioral sciences, humanities, education, communication, health and medical sciences, natural and environmental sciences, engineering, and computational sciences. The journal examines social media as a technological, communicative, behavioral, psychological, educational, cultural, economic, medical, scientific, and societal phenomenon.

The journal welcomes theoretical, empirical, clinical, methodological, and interdisciplinary studies examining social media platforms, users, content, technologies, algorithms, communities, and institutions. Regardless of disciplinary origin, social media must constitute a substantive component of the research question, theoretical framework, methodology, data, or interpretation of findings.

JSOMER publishes original research articles, systematic reviews, scoping reviews, meta-analyses, theoretical and conceptual articles, methodological articles, brief research reports, and book reviews relevant to the journal’s scope. The journal welcomes quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods, experimental, observational, clinical, epidemiological, longitudinal, cross-sectional, computational, network-analytic, and evidence-synthesis approaches.

Manuscripts are evaluated according to their relevance to the journal’s aims and scope, originality, scholarly contribution, methodological appropriateness, ethical compliance, transparency, clarity of reporting, and correspondence between the evidence presented and the conclusions drawn.

Editorial and Publishing Principles

JSOMER is committed to editorial independence, scholarly integrity, methodological rigor, transparent reporting, and responsible research and publication practices. Editorial decisions are based on the scholarly merit, methodological quality, ethical compliance, and relevance of each manuscript and are not influenced by the authors’ nationality, institutional affiliation, geographic location, personal characteristics, or ability to pay.

All research manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening are evaluated through the journal’s double-blind peer-review process. The identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from one another during peer review. Final editorial decisions are made by the Editor-in-Chief or an assigned editor based on the reviewers’ reports, the authors’ revisions, and the journal’s editorial and ethical standards.

The journal maintains publicly accessible policies concerning peer review, publication ethics, authorship, conflicts of interest, research integrity, plagiarism screening, artificial intelligence, corrections, retractions, author rights, open access, copyright, licensing, and digital preservation.

Journal Mission

JSOMER seeks to contribute to the cumulative development of social media research by publishing methodologically sound, ethically responsible, and internationally relevant scholarship. The journal encourages meaningful dialogue across disciplines and supports research that contributes to theory, research methods, professional practice, technological development, clinical and public-health practice, science communication, education, public policy, and societal understanding.

Through immediate open access and a no-fee publishing model, JSOMER aims to reduce financial barriers to scholarly communication and make high-quality social media research accessible to researchers, practitioners, policymakers, students, and the wider public.

Open Knowledge Without Financial Barriers

All published scholarly content is made immediately and permanently available without subscription, payment, or registration barriers. JSOMER does not charge submission fees, article processing charges, publication fees, page charges, or other mandatory fees.
