Publishing Responsibilities and Operating Principles

01Publishing Mission View details +

JSOMER supports the responsible publication and international dissemination of rigorous, transparent, and ethically conducted research on social media. The journal provides an interdisciplinary forum for scholarship involving the social and behavioral sciences, humanities, education, communication, health and medical sciences, natural and environmental sciences, engineering, and computational sciences.

Regardless of disciplinary origin, social media must constitute a substantive component of the research question, theoretical framework, methodology, data, or interpretation of findings.

The journal prioritizes scholarly quality, editorial independence, research and publication integrity, methodological rigor, transparent reporting, accessibility, long-term availability, and responsible publishing practices.

02Diamond Open Access and Financial Model View details +

JSOMER is a diamond open-access journal. All published scholarly content is made immediately and permanently available online without subscription, payment, embargo, or mandatory registration.

  • no submission fees;
  • no article processing charges;
  • no editorial or peer-review fees;
  • no publication or page charges;
  • no mandatory author fees; and
  • no reader access fees.

Routine publishing and technical expenses are funded directly by the publisher. This support does not confer authority over the assessment, peer review, acceptance, rejection, or publication scheduling of individual manuscripts. No payment or financial consideration influences editorial decisions.

JSOMER does not accept commercial advertising, sponsored editorial content, paid promotional articles, paid links, payments connected to manuscript acceptance or publication, payments connected to citations or editorial visibility, or another financial arrangement intended to influence editorial treatment.

03Copyright and Licensing View details +

Authors retain copyright in their published articles and grant JSOMER the nonexclusive right of first publication and the rights necessary to publish, distribute, preserve, index, and maintain the article as part of the scholarly record.

Unless a published item clearly states otherwise, JSOMER articles are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0).

License: Creative Commons CC BY-NC-ND 4.0

The applicable copyright and licensing information should appear on the article landing page and in the published full-text version. JSOMER does not require authors to transfer copyright or sign a separate copyright-transfer agreement. Author approval is documented through the journal’s submission and proof-approval workflow.

04DOI, Metadata, and Discoverability View details +

JSOMER assigns a Digital Object Identifier to published scholarly articles and uses the DOI prefix 10.29329.

Article metadata are made available through the journal platform and, where applicable, through Crossref infrastructure, OAI-PMH services, indexing and abstracting databases, library discovery systems, repositories, citation-management formats, and digital preservation services.

The journal encourages authors to provide persistent researcher identifiers, including ORCID iDs, and seeks to maintain accurate and consistent metadata for titles, abstracts, keywords, authors, affiliations, publication dates, references, funding, copyright, licensing, DOI information, and post-publication status.

05Digital Preservation and Long-Term Access View details +

JSOMER is published using Open Journal Systems. The platform provides a CLOCKSS-compatible publisher manifest that identifies published archival units and permits their discovery by compatible preservation workflows.

The existence of this manifest does not, by itself, mean that JSOMER has an active preservation agreement or confirmed archival deposit with CLOCKSS.

JSOMER maintains its online archive and seeks to preserve continued access to published issues, articles, metadata, supplementary files, corrections, retraction notices, Expressions of Concern, and other post-publication notices. Any formally established preservation arrangement will be identified accurately in the journal’s Open Access and Archiving Policy.

06Editorial Independence View details +

Editorial decisions are independent of journal ownership, financial support, technical administration, indexing objectives, promotional considerations, personal or institutional relationships, political or ideological preferences, commercial interests, and potential effects on journal metrics.

The publisher does not direct editors to accept, reject, delay, or prioritize manuscripts for financial, personal, institutional, political, commercial, or reputational reasons.

  • relevance to the journal’s aims and scope;
  • originality and scholarly significance;
  • methodological appropriateness and transparency;
  • ethical compliance;
  • clarity and completeness of reporting;
  • correspondence between evidence and conclusions;
  • independent peer-review reports;
  • authors’ responses and revisions; and
  • compliance with journal policies.

The publisher does not interfere with the independent evaluations of reviewers or the decisions of the Editor-in-Chief and assigned editors.

07Manuscripts Authored by the Publisher View details +

When the publisher is an author or co-author of a submission, the publisher must have no involvement in administrative or editorial assessment, appointment of the handling editor, reviewer selection, peer-review correspondence, evaluation of revisions, access to confidential editorial records, the editorial decision, or publication scheduling.

The manuscript must be handled by an independent editor with no relevant conflict of interest. Where such a manuscript is published, the article must include an editorial independence statement explaining that the publisher had no involvement in assessment, peer review, or the final decision.

08Publisher Responsibilities View details +

The publisher is responsible for:

  • maintaining the official journal website and publishing platform;
  • supporting continuity and regularity of publication;
  • providing technical and administrative infrastructure for editorial and peer-review activities;
  • protecting the independence of editors and reviewers;
  • maintaining accurate journal and article metadata;
  • supporting DOI registration, preservation, and persistent access;
  • making ownership, fees, copyright, licensing, and access conditions public;
  • protecting confidential editorial records and maintaining appropriate safeguards;
  • supporting responses to research and publication-integrity concerns;
  • facilitating corrections, retractions, Expressions of Concern, and other necessary notices;
  • preventing financial, commercial, institutional, or personal interests from influencing editorial decisions; and
  • cooperating appropriately with scholarly indexing, preservation, and integrity organizations.

The publisher supports correction of the scholarly record when reliable evidence identifies a material error, ethical concern, or instance of research or publication misconduct.

09Changes in Ownership or Financial Model View details +

If the journal’s ownership, publisher identity, revenue sources, fee policy, or financial model changes, the relevant information will be published transparently on the journal website before the change is implemented.

Where required, material changes will also be communicated to relevant indexing, abstracting, preservation, and directory services. Changes in ownership or funding must not compromise editorial independence or the integrity of the scholarly record.
